So much has changed in the dating world since the advent of smartphones, texting, dating apps, and social media. But one thing that hasn\u2019t changed is that you have to avoid exuding desperation, and few behaviors give off more desperate vibes than texting her back immediately. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
There used to be a rule in some circles that when you got a girl\u2019s number, you waited to call her for a day or two. While you shouldn\u2019t wait days to respond to a text (\u201cHe left me on read for three days? Sometimes they\u2019re unfortunate, and sometimes they\u2019re hilarious. Use this to your advantage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Autocorrect gaffes come up most often when you\u2019re texting quickly and don\u2019t double-check what your phone has decided it thinks you\u2019re trying to fail. So if you\u2019re engaging a woman well via text message, an autocorrect flub on her part is a good sign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Past that, a good, funny autocorrect fail allows an opening for you to tease her playfully (never mean-spiritedly). So if she texts, \u201cNothing, just watching \u2018America\u2019s Got Tourette\u2019s,\u201d then quickly follows up with \u201cTALENT! Not how often has it happened, but how often did it make you happy?<\/p>\n\n\n\n You probably thought to yourself\u2014 or even said out loud\u2014 something like, \u201cOMG I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF SOMETHING.\u201d And then you kind of resent whoever it was. Right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n Don\u2019t be that guy. Her lack of response can tell you much that you need to know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Be patient. She\u2019ll text back when she can, or she won\u2019t, and then you\u2019ll have your answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n One downfall of texting is the lack of non-verbal cues that help convey your meaning. Misunderstandings and miscommunications<\/a> via text happen often. If you send something sarcastic, but she doesn\u2019t realize you\u2019re playing around (because she can\u2019t see your face or hear the tone of your voice), she might feel stung.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Along those lines, short answers can send the wrong message:<\/p>\n\n\n\n SHE:<\/strong> Hey, handsome. No way.\u201d Sure, she\u2019ll only write that to see you text it again, but what\u2019s wrong with that?<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cYour\u201d and \u201cyou\u2019re\u201d mean different things. She knows that. You do, too. Or at least you should. So \u201cYour so funny\u201d will be annoying to her at best. At worst, it will cause her to close the book on you. Skeptical? Don\u2019t be, because a recent survey<\/a> found that most women expressed the opinion that bad grammar was a bigger turn-off than bad sex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Don\u2019t confuse \u201cthere,\u201d \u201ctheir,\u201d and \u201cthey\u2019re,\u201d and make sure your subjects and verbs agree in number<\/a>. And don\u2019t ever use \u201cI\u201d with a possessive: \u201cMy boss came to Mike and I\u2019s office today.\u201d That is not a thing. Don\u2019t do it. Ever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A shortcut to showing your cultured side, dropping in a word or two\u2014 sparingly\u2014 from another language can say, \u201cI\u2019m well-rounded, I\u2019m a bit travelled, and I\u2019m smart, n'est-ce pas?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Overuse will connote that you went to a crusty private boarding school and want everyone to know how smart you are. There\u2019s nothing wrong with a school like that or with being smart, but no one wants it shoved in their face every time they pick up their phone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Too many men jump too fast into sexting. Sexting is tricky. It can more negatively affect women<\/a> than men through intimidation and pressure, but past that, jumping too quickly from getting-to-know-you small talk to innuendo and outright dirty talk can turn her off quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Keep these two things in mind when texting a woman (or anyone, really):<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cAre you saying I can\u2019t send my wife a dirty text during the day?\u201d No, we are not saying that. Keep it clean. When you send her pictures of yourself, you risk giving the impression that you are one. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Of course, if she asks you for a picture, oblige her. But don\u2019t send her\u2014 solicited or not\u2014 a photo of you shirtless on the beach, flexing in your banana hammock. Nobody wants to see that. On the off chance that she does, she\u2019ll ask for it. For the love of all that\u2019s holy, don\u2019t surprise her with a photo like that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Men are visual creatures. We desperately want to see women naked. It doesn't matter how many women we\u2019ve seen naked in person, in pictures, or on television. So lots of us assume that women want to see as many naked men as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n They. Do. Not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Many women appreciate the penis, and many like to look at one. But they do not want to see your junk before they get to know you. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Sending a photo like this shows that you are more interested in sex than love or a relationship or getting to know her. Why wouldn\u2019t it annoy her, too?<\/p>\n\n\n\n Also, do it sparingly. Peppering every message with someone else\u2019s words reeks of \u201cI can\u2019t think of anything to say on my own.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Some flirting techniques work well in texts, while others\u2014 touching her arm when you talk to her, for instance\u2014 are impractical. Flirt with her, but do it sparingly.
